The tiny Leicestershire village of Hungarton, sometimes spelt Hungerton, is located about 10 miles north east of Leicester in the Harborough district of the county. It enjoys a rich history having been included in the 1086 Domesday Book when known as Hungretone, while between 1764 and 1776 the village was laid out as a model village by the owner of nearby Quenby Hall Shukburgh Ashby. Although the village has only a small population, less than 210 in 2011, it did hold its own race meeting at Hungerton Slade on Friday 22nd September 1732 when Slamakin won the principal race. |
